The Great Provincetown Schooner Regatta & Yacht Race is a destination and experience like no other boat race in the world. Located at the outer most tip of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Provincetown Harbor is stunningly beautiful. You will feel as if you have stepped back in time as you race alongside majestic schooners in full sail.

You're invited to join the fun at the 7th annual Great Provincetown Schooner Regatta & Yacht Race where historic schooners and modern sloops come to Provincetown for a week of fun and lively competition.

Four classes of all size boats race the same course alongside two classes of schooners in what can only be described as visually spectacular for those who love sailing. Seating on board the schooners is available for purchase offering spectators a rare chance to be in the race alongside the crew for the general public. If you have ever wanted to know what it is like to race in a regatta, this is your chance to experience one of the world's greatest sporting events.

Tue, Sept 2. The Sperry Challenge for the Fisherman's Cup kicks off the week with a race from Gloucester, Mass. to Provincetown, across Massachusetts Bay. Follow the race on the web: http://charthorizon.com/races/2008_provincetown_schooner/htdocs/

Wed, Sept 3. Movie Screening of WIND at the Cape Inn. 7:30pm. Free admission.

Wed, Sept 3. Bon Fire at Herring Cove Beach.

Thur, Sept 4. Commodore's Reception 8pm, Provincetown Public Library. By invitation only. The presentation of the trophies and a cash purse for the winning schooners will be handed down from the bow of a half scale replica of the Rose Dorothea. Rigged with full sails, she sits inside the historic Library next to the Lipton Cup she won in 1907.

Fri, Sept 5. Free Tour of Schooners alongside MacMillan Pier 10:00am to 2:00pm.  This is an opportunity for visitors to learn the history of these great vessels and meet the captains and crews and tour the decks and hulls of these floating museums. And sign up to join the crew on race day.

Fri, Sept 5. Parade of Sail 3:00pm to 5:00pm. passes the gathering of spectators in the viewing stand on MacMillan Pier.

Fri, Sept 5. Crew Party on Fisherman's Wharf.  7:30pm. The whole town turns out to join the fun with live music, dancing and food.

Sat, Sept 6. The 7th annual Great Provincetown Schooner Regatta & Yacht Race commences after the Swim 4 Life. At 8:00 AM the day begins with a Captain's Breakfast.  At Noon sailboats head to the start line. The race is followed by the Awards Banquet sponsored by Seamen's Bank.

Sat, Sept 6. CANCELED Castle Hill “Paints the Town and the Regatta” aboard the Portuguese Princess. 1-5pm. Come and paint or photograph the Regatta! For reservations and more information contact Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill www.castlehill.org or call 508-349-7511.

Sun, Sept 7.  A music concert of sea shanties and other songs of the sea by Roll and Go at the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum. Free admission with ticket to the Monument. 2:00pm.

Sun, Sept 7. THE TEMPEST, the last play written entirely by Shakespeare, is a rollicking comedy/drama that contains a shipwreck, two hostile groups stranded on the same island, and maritime music.  The play is permeated by the sea in both its beneficent and dangerous manifestations.  Performed by Shakespeare on the Cape, a professional troupe of brilliant young actors, this most accessible of Shakespeare's plays is made even more accessible to contemporary viewers in a lively version that feels as if it were written yesterday. Shakespeare on the Cape has scheduled a benefit evening on Sunday, September 7, 6-11 p.m.  This will include a performance of THE TEMPEST, an intermission with enough fancy finger foods to comprise a dinner, and a concluding performance of THE WITCHES, a take-off on MACBETH.  A cash wine and beer bar will be available.  Tickets will be $75 for one play and the reception, $100 for both plays and the reception. www.shakespeareonthecape.org, 508-487-7377.

The Great Provincetown Schooner Regatta is recognized as one of the top historical sailing events not only around New England but nationally as well. The Great Provincetown Schooner Regatta Races are organized with expertise supplied by the venerable Provincetown Yacht Club, one of the oldest yacht clubs in America.
