You will never know the world aright,
till the sea itself floweth in your veins
and you are clothed with the heavens,
and crowned with the stars.

Dear Sponsor,

We hope you will consider the benefits of contributing to the 7th Annual Great Provincetown Schooner Regatta & Yacht Race (GPSR) held every September to celebrate our rich heritage.

GPSR is recognized as a premier historical, educational and competitive event that appeals to a wide array of locals and tourists alike. The races include both historical schooners and modern sailing vessels in several classes. Last year, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Lipton Cup in which Provincetown‚s Rose Dorothea triumphed, we had the largest turnout in the regatta‚s history.

In 2008 we are expanding to a weeklong event that will be kicked off with a schooner challenge across Massachusetts Bay just as they did in 1907 for the famous Lipton Cup. The Captains of the American Schooner Association from New England and beyond want to bring back the Lipton Cup Race for the honor and pride of their home ports.

The challenge is on! The schooner Hindu will represent Provincetown against several vessels from Boston, Gloucester and Martha‚s Vineyard, in a race from Gloucester to Provincetown, Massachusetts on September 3, 2008.

This will be followed by our traditional Great Provincetown Schooner Regatta & Yacht Race event in Provincetown Harbor. A new opportunity is at hand to capture the attention of cities across the region to see who will bring home the Cup and the Glory.

The additional race provides new opportunities for our sponsors to capitalize on the expanded press and audience. We have provided a detailed sponsorship benefits package for your consideration.

Schooners no longer operate as fishing vessels that contributed to the cultural and financial legacy of so many New England ports. Today they are part of a booming tourism and sailing school industry. Whether restorations or replicas, these majestic schooners sail into our modern consciousness, captivating our imagination and reminding us of our unique place in American history.

My personal involvement in the schooner regatta has helped me realize the broad appeal our event has for both spectators on-board during the race and those who view from the many vantage points around the harbor. To witness what Provincetown Harbor once looked like is a rare treat to the eyes for locals and visitors alike who offer heart-felt thanks for those who make the event possible.

Our sponsors build a lasting brand loyalty knowing their contribution is money well spent. The Lipton Cup is considered the single most important event and source of pride in the history of Provincetown. Now, your company can be recognized as part of that local pride by supporting this important historical and competitive event.
